"As a nursing student, I have access to world-class facilities where I can develop specialised skills and gain hands-on experience that would be difficult to find elsewhere."

Meet Richard
Richard started his Master of Nursing Science in 2025 at the University of Melbourne. Prior to this, he studied a joint program between a Chinese university and the University of Tasmania, completing the first two years of undergraduate study in China and then the final two years in Australia. He was born and raised in China.

I chose the Master of Nursing Science for several compelling reasons. The University of Melbourne’s reputation for academic excellence and its comprehensive nursing program particularly attracted me. Melbourne’s diverse healthcare environment offers invaluable learning opportunities and employment prospects that will enhance my professional development after graduation. The University of Melbourne’s deep partnerships with leading hospitals, including the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital, provide great clinical placement opportunities. As a nursing student, I have access to world-class facilities where I can develop specialised skills and gain hands-on experience that would be difficult to find elsewhere.

- Quality of teaching
- Clinical placements
- Relationship with staff and classmates
I enjoy the practical components of my course, especially the simulation lab sessions. The lab recreates a realistic hospital ward environment where we can develop and practice clinical skills in a safe, controlled setting.
I also like the thoughtful course scheduling. Classes are designed to run three to four days per week. This structure provides a better work-life balance and allows more time for independent study, personal commitments, and self-care. For example, I am able to balance working as a Research Assistant at the University of Melbourne alongside my studies.

After graduation, I would like to apply for a graduate nursing program, and then eventually work in ED.

For future international students, I would recommend embracing the multiculturalism and actively participating in campus life. The city of Melbourne and the University of Melbourne are incredibly inclusive; you will feel welcomed and supported as an international student.
