I chose the University of Melbourne because of its rich creative culture and beautiful campus. Melbourne is an inspiring and supportive learning environment. Its reputation for academic excellence, multidisciplinary collaboration and strong student community set it apart from other institutions.
My passion for speech and communication grew from over ten years’ experience as an emcee, and I wanted to build a solid theoretical foundation and clinical skillset. The Master of Speech Pathology at Melbourne offers evidence-based teaching, extensive hands-on placements, and international learning opportunities, all backed by dedicated student support, making it the ideal choice for my goal of helping people in the community.

I’ve especially valued learning anatomy in the Medical Building, where I can study specimens that bring textbook diagrams to life. I also appreciate how the Master of Speech Pathology places me in varied clinical environments, from paediatric clinics to adult rehabilitation centres. This allows me to observe how speech pathology adapts to different populations and needs.
Through this mix of theory and practice, I’ve strengthened my interpersonal communication and clinical reasoning skills. Our timetable balances several days of on-campus lectures and workshops with placement days, and placements are structured in levels of growing complexity, so we can gradually build confidence and competence in real-world environments.
Additionally, I’ve enjoyed actively engaging in student life through volunteering and study opportunities offered by the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. In 2025, I joined the U21 Global Learning Program in Nepal, where I collaborated with students from diverse disciplines and countries to contribute to health education in a rural community.

I wasn’t sure what direction to take when I began my degree, but placements across various settings have given me clarity. Through a balanced mix of theory and practice, I was able to assess various career pathways, so I’ll graduate with both the confidence and experience needed for employability.
