Advising and Mentoring
Advising and Mentoring in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences consists of the Melbourne Peer Mentor Program and Academic Advising at Melbourne. These programs give you access to social and academic connections, to ease the transition to University life and provide guidance and support in your journey at the University of Melbourne.

I love connecting with people and creating an environment for people to connect to each other. I am a lifelong learner who loves solving crimes on my weekends and who lives with 6 chickens and a cat!

Matt Williams, Program Officer
Hi, my name is Matt and I’m a Program Officer here at MDHS. I have been working at the University since 2021 but have been in this faculty since December 2022. Prior to that I worked as both a Primary and Secondary school teacher. I look forward to assisting all students in their transition to and through their studies at the University of Melbourne as well as ensuring that you get the most out of your university experience!

I joined the University of Melbourne in 2022 as a Course Planning Adviser and joined the MDHS Student Life team in 2023. Student wellbeing is at the heart of my work, and I strive to deliver the best student experience possible by facilitating exciting and meaningful opportunities through the study journey. I am excited to help make sure you have an enjoyable and rewarding time during your time at the University. In my spare time I enjoy food and travel and am happiest cooking for family and friends!

Our team of dedicated Indigenous officers provide support to prospective and current Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students. The MDHS Student Hub offers training for student leaders aimed at enriching their student experience and developing their personal, professional, and job-ready skills. This comprehensive program, envisioned as a journey, includes training sessions, workshops, and coaching designed to prepare students for the demands of leadership roles in their future professions.

As a Student Leadership Trainer, I craft purposeful, tailored training initiatives and plans to deliver sessions with effective pedagogies and learner-centric principals. Fostering personal and professional growth and future and practical-skills empowerment, these training programs resonate deeply with me through over 15 years of multi-faceted experience within the higher education and wider industry landscape.
In my world, I manage a bustling household, navigating the joys and challenges of raising teenagers and a primary schooler! And our love for overseas traveling, eating out and holidays!
