The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS) is committed to supporting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students through a range of Indigenous Entry Pathways across our schools and programs.
Each pathway is tailored to the specific school or discipline, with unique eligibility criteria and application steps. Explore the sections below to learn more about what’s available and how to apply.
Important Information
To be considered for an offer through an Indigenous Entry Pathway, you must:
- Submit a direct application to the University of Melbourne
- Confirm your eligibility as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with the Access and Participation team at Murrup Barak, the University’s Institute for Indigenous Development

This pathway is designed to support and prioritise applications from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students who are committed to a career in medicine.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the MD Indigenous Entry Pathway, you must:
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and have your identity confirmed through Murrup Barak
- Meet the academic requirements listed below
- Submit your application through the appropriate MD entry portal—either via GEMSAS or directly to the University of Melbourne
Application Dates:
Applications open from May 1 to May 30 each year for entry in the following academic year.
Please note: Deadline dates are strictly enforced. Late applications will not be accepted.Academic Requirements and Selection Process
Completion of an undergraduate (Bachelor's) degree in any discipline
A minimum GPA of 5.0 (as calculated under University guidelines) is required
Applicants below this GPA threshold are not eligible for entry
No GAMSAT is required for applicants via the Indigenous Entry Pathway
Eligible applicants will be invited to a Multi-Mini Interview (MMI)
Final interviews are conducted with a panel chaired by the Associate Dean (Indigenous) (or nominee), along with Indigenous representatives

Master of Speech Pathology (Indigenous Entry Pathway)
This program is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants through a dedicated Indigenous Entry Pathway, which includes priority access and tailored support.

The Master of Speech Pathology (MSP) is a two-year, full-time graduate degree offered by the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology at the University of Melbourne. It equips students with the knowledge and practical experience required to become a qualified speech pathologist.
Course Overview
Year 1: Foundational knowledge in anatomy, physiology, phonetics, linguistics, and speech and language disorders. Includes introductory clinical practice.
Year 2: Builds on clinical and theoretical knowledge, with a focus on advanced clinical practice and research in speech pathology.
Students will complete approximately 400 hours of supervised clinical placement across health care and education settings in both metropolitan and rural Victoria. Clinical placements run alongside coursework and also occur during semester breaks.

To be eligible, you must:
Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
Provide supporting documentation.

Prospective Indigenous applicants are encouraged to:
- Submit their application directly to the University of Melbourne via the online application portal
- Complete the Graduate Access Melbourne section of the application form
Application Deadline:
All applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM AEST, 31 August for entry the following year.
Please note: Application deadlines are strictly enforced and late applications will not be accepted.There are a limited number of Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) available. To be considered for a CSP, ensure your application is submitted in full before the deadline.
