In an ideal world, studying medicine and becoming a good doctor should not be limited by money, but this is not always the case. My family are first-generation immigrants based in rural Queensland and we work intensely hard to support ourselves.

“Coming from a financially challenged background, this means so much to me!”

This year, embarking on the Doctor of Medicine, I was prepared to take on more paid work to support myself, when COVID-19 turned things upside down. My family are also struggling with reduced working hours as a result of the pandemic. I want to highlight how much it means to me to receive support for my studies in medicine, especially this year.
