Eliciting user and purchaser insights to de-risk Australian market entry for a diabetes management platform

Opportunity
An existing diabetes management platform, already implemented in a European market, needed to understand how to adapt its commercial and technical strategy to improve adoption in the Australian market.
Intervention
The Centre for Digital Transformation of Health research team conducted a mixed-methods evaluation to elicit insights from key Australian stakeholders. This included an environmental scan of current technology and best-practice adoption recommendations, online interviews with endocrinologists, diabetes educators, community pharmacists, and patients, and in-person clinical simulation testing in the clinical simulation lab. The SimLab enabled hands-on dialogue between the platform's developers and local users, rapidly surfacing issues of usability and workflow compatibility.
Impact of simulation
Forty-eight key insights were elicited spanning design, workflow fit, models of care, and patient preferences. As a direct result, the client pivoted their Australian strategy towards vertical integration. The research process also connected the client with key local clinical stakeholders.
