Dr Meredith Layton

Senior Lead, Strategy and Engagement

Meredith brings her experience and passion for facilitating collaborative, interdisciplinary science to solve significant problems in healthcare and her skills in research development and translation into improved care to her role supporting strategy, engagement and operations at the Centre for Digital Transformation of Health.

With a 28 year career at all levels of biomedical research, Meredith has brought her experience in interdisciplinary science as a physical scientist (with a BSc Hons in chemistry and biochemistry and a PhD in protein chemistry from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute) working in cancer biology (18 years of postdoctoral experience in London and Melbourne) to the roles in research development she has held since 2012. Prior to her current role at CDTH, she was Head of Research Development for the VCCC Alliance, a convening organisation that facilitates collaboration and embedding of research-derived evidence and innovations into cancer care. In this role she specialised in developing programs that leveraged the excellence in research and clinical care in the 10 alliance members and engaged consumers, resulting in increased collaboration across organisations and disciplines, and greater innovation in cancer care. The synergistic programs she co-developed with alliance members facilitated ~$50m in funding from grants and partnerships, that was unlikely to be achieved by the organisations working alone, to drive improvements in cancer care. Relevant to her current role and to learning health systems, she has expertise in data governance and developed a health data platform and hub for data-driven research that was an enabler for cancer health services research across the alliance.
