Cancer Disparities Research - Cancer Research Center for Health Equity

Professor Haile presents a summary of ongoing research that addresses cancer disparities, particularly in Asian poopulations and LGBTQ+ populations.

PROFESSOR ROBERT HAILE
Associate Director for Population Sciences, Director of Division of Population Sciences, and Director of Cancer Research Center for Health Equity
Cedars Sinai Medical Center

The Cancer Research Center for Health Equity does community outreach and engagement (COE) and research to address cancer disparities in underserved, high-risk populations, including African Americans, Asians, Hispanic/Latinx, rural, and LGBTQ+ communities of color. Research spans from genetic/molecular research to behavioral research (adherence to cancer screening, physical activity, diet, tobacco cessation and control) to policy research.

In this presentation, Dr. Haile focuses on Asian populations (Filipino and Korean) and LGBTQ populations and will describe COE activities, important cancer disparities, and ongoing and planned research to address these disparities. Some of the disparities and research activities would be relevant to Australia.

Professor Haile serves as Director of the Cancer Research Center for Health Equity. He is also Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Director of the Division of Population Sciences, Associate Director for Population Sciences at Cedars-Sinai Cancer, and holder of the Endowed Chair in Population Sciences. Prior to joining Cedars, Dr. Haile was Professor in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University and an Associate Director of the Stanford Cancer Institute.
