About

Over the past decade, the Victorian Medical Insurance Agency Limited PSA Insurance has provided support for students in financial need from rural Victoria or outer-metropolitan Melbourne who would otherwise be unable to complete studies the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the University of Melbourne. The scholarships provide accommodation and board at a residential college or rural accommodation.

Each scholarship runs for a consecutive term of four (4) years.

Benefits

Up to $30,000 per annum to provide accommodation and board at residential college or rural accommodation for the duration of the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees.

Eligibility

To be considered for this award, students must:

  • Intend to commence studies in either the Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Melbourne
  • Be Australian citizens
  • Be from a regional or remote area of Australia
  • Experiencing disadvantaged circumstances
  • Intend to apply for residency at one of the colleges or Halls of Residence affiliated with the University of Melbourne for the duration of their degree, should they be successful in their application.

Selection

Students ranked based on the highest financial assessment score.

Where possible, the scholarship will be awarded to at least one MD student and one DDS student.

Application

To apply for this award, students must submit an online Student Financial Assessment form.

Applications will be assessed and ranked by Scholarships & Bursaries (University Services) using the Student Financial Assessment process.

Applications are currently closed for this award.

Outcome

Successful recipients of this award are required to demonstrate their ongoing eligibility for the scholarship by submitting a Financial Assessment Form annually to confirm their continued eligibility.
Participation in mentoring or tutoring programs is encouraged (but not mandatory).
