"The teachers are great, their passion for the subjects is very clear. One of my happiest moments was when I was in a practical and I realised that I could actually apply the material we were learning instead of just copying the demonstrator... I now know the right balance of studying, exercising, socialising and ‘me’ time."

Isabella Pozzi, 19, moved from Cairns in northern Queensland to study a Bachelor of Biomedicine at the University of Melbourne.

Moving to a much bigger city was a big factor in choosing the University.

"I love that there is always something happening and that there is so much diversity."

Moving to Melbourne

Living at a college helped Bella with the transition to University.

"I moved down straight to college and so found it really easy to adjust because the college O-Week activities really gave you a feel for everything. By joining a college, you get a hundred new friends by just going to meals each day!

"Colleges are a really good way to start at uni. It’s your accommodation, food, sport, study and social life rolled into one."

University life

Bella rates the teaching highly, especially the hands-on study.

"The teachers are great, their passion for the subjects is very clear. One of my happiest moments was when I was in a practical and I realised that I could actually apply the material we were learning instead of just copying the demonstrator."

Discovery

Learning how to balance the pressures of study has given Bella a great sense of personal achievement.

"It’s taken me until now to feel that I’ve figured out the best way for me to do uni, but through trial and error I’m now much more efficient and getting a lot more from my classes. I now know the right balance of studying, exercising, socialising and ‘me’ time."

Career in Health

While completing the Bachelor of Biomedicine, Bella hopes to identify the area of science or medicine that she’d like to specialise in.
