MCCT Tour of Doherty Clinical Trials
This week representatives from the Melbourne Academic Centre for Health Clinical Trials Committee and Melbourne Centre for Clinical Trials (MCCT) had the privilege of touring Doherty Clinical Trials in East Melbourne.
Doherty Clinical Trials partners with leading local and global organisations to deliver bespoke early-phase studies specialising in infectious diseases and human challenge trials. These cutting-edge trials help speed up the development of new treatments so patients can get them sooner. The facility is uniquely designed and remains the only dedicated human challenge trial site in Australia.
Human challenge trials involve carefully exposing healthy volunteers to a well-known infectious agent in a highly controlled and safe environment. This helps researchers learn faster and develop vaccines more quickly.
Among Doherty Clinical Trial’s innovative studies is CHIVAS-M1. This is a human challenge trial targeting Strep A, a bacterial infection that affects 750 million people worldwide and causes over 500,000 deaths annually. By conducting these studies in a secure clinical setting, Doherty Clinical Trials is paving the way for faster vaccine breakthroughs and improved global health outcomes.
We are excited about the opportunities for collaboration and innovation that lie ahead.
