MCCT welcomes inaugural Future Leader Fellows for Clinical Trials

The Melbourne Centre for Clinical Trials (MCCT) will support two new Fellows working to make it easier for more Victorians to access and participate in clinical trials.

Dr Violet Mukaro and Professor Justin Yeung have been selected for the inaugural Victorian Future Leader Fellows for Clinical Trials program, supported by a $2 million Victorian Government investment.

Dr Mukaro will work with African Australian communities to develop culturally appropriate ways to build awareness, trust and participation in critical care clinical trials. Her work could also help improve participation among other culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Professor Yeung will develop and test digital tools at Western Health to help clinicians identify patients who may be eligible for oncology clinical trials and make it easier for patients to learn about trial opportunities.

MCCT Director Professor Julie Simpson said the projects address different but important barriers to clinical trial participation.

“Professor Yeung and Dr Mukaro are tackling different challenges, but both projects have the potential to broaden involvement in clinical trials and strengthen access to research opportunities.”

“The Fellowships are also helping develop the next generation of clinical trials leaders, building capability that will benefit Victoria’s research and healthcare sectors long into the future.”

These Fellowships with MACH, and administered through MCCT, will also help build the skills and experience of Victoria’s next generation of clinical trials leaders.
