Anterior Eye Clinical Trials Unit Joins MCCT Network
We are pleased to welcome the Anterior Eye, Clinical Trials and Research Translation Unit to the Melbourne Centre for Clinical Trials.
Led by Professor Laura Downie, the Unit brings extensive expertise in ophthalmic clinical trial design, governance and delivery. Its work spans Phase I-IV trials with a strong focus on non-surgical interventions for eye conditions, in particular ocular surface disease, myopia and presbyopia. Their work has comprised more than 25 clinical trials with over 5,000 participant study visits.
Established in the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences at the University of Melbourne, the Unit has a proven track record in investigator-initiated and commercial studies. Their clinical trials have led to new device and drug regulatory approvals. They also maintain a research participant database which has been compiled over years of clinical activity and professional collaboration. Through their database and networks, they can recruit a wider range of participants leading to robust and generalisable research.
We look forward to the Unit’s contribution to strengthening our clinical trials ecosystem.
