Adaptive Platform Trials in Focus on Leading Research Podcasts

MCCT is pleased to highlight two recent podcast features showcasing leadership from adaptive platform trials supported by the centre.

In a recent episode of The Incubator Podcast, Professor Brett Manley joined hosts Ben and Daphna to discuss the PLATIPUS adaptive platform trial. As a principal investigator of PLATIPUS, Professor Manley shared insights into how adaptive trial designs are helping address long‑standing challenges in neonatal research, with a strong focus on collaboration, efficiency and improved outcomes for babies born preterm.

In a separate podcast episode of In the Interim…, Professors Steven Tong and Josh Davis joined Dr Scott Berry to discuss the SNAP platform trial for Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia. Professor Tong is the principal investigator of both the SNAP and ASCOT adaptive platform trials. The conversation explored the rationale behind SNAP, its large‑scale adaptive design and its implementation across approximately 150 hospitals in 13 countries. Key topics included trial methodology, statistical considerations, domain results and the integration of adult and paediatric analyses, providing a clear and practical view of how adaptive platform trials can address important infectious disease questions at scale.

Together, these conversations highlight the growing role of adaptive platform trials in improving the way clinical research is designed and delivered, while emphasising collaboration, innovation and patient‑centred approaches across diverse clinical settings.

Episodes are available to watch or listen via the respective podcast platforms.
