Structure and Process

The Early Career Academic (ECA) Network Committee membership will reflect ECAs across MDHS, with representation sought from all Schools, Departments and affiliated Institutes; and across diverse gender and culture.

To distribute the workload, the ECA Network leadership will comprise of an Executive Council and several Committees focused on specific activities.

The council will comprise of two Co-Chairs, a Secretary, a Treasurer, and the head of Committees.

The role of the Executive Council (Co-Chairs, Secretary and Treasurer) will be elected in general meetings open to all members.

  • The ECA Network Committee adheres to a structure where one co-chair is elected at the beginning of the calendar year, and the other co-chair is elected mid-year, to ensure continuity and knowledge transfer in leadership positions. The council is also committed to diversity where it is represented by one male and one female co-chair. Members who identify as LGBTIQA+ are welcome to apply for all roles.

The Committees will consist of self-nominated individuals.

Council roles would generally entail a two-year commitment:

  • In Year 1, members would function in their primary role
  • In Year 2, members would function to support the incoming member, in an advisory/mentoring role.

The Committees will be Sponsorship, Events, Communications and Outreach. While Committees have specific roles, they are intended to work together to facilitate ECA Network objectives.

The Council will initially meet once a month, on a date to be determined at the first meeting. Subsequent meetings may be more regular as necessary. Meetings are open to all.
