The Validitron hosts University of Melbourne Masters students for hands-on science communication project
The Validitron team, Centre for Digital Transformation of Health recently hosted four Master of Science students from the University of Melbourne for an intensive six-week science communication project, culminating in a final presentation to the wider Validitron team. Led by mentors Dr Shaz Sivanesan and Dr Mahima Kalla, the project welcomed students from diverse scientific backgrounds—none of whom had prior experience in digital health—allowing them to contribute fresh perspectives to digital health communication.
As part of their project, the students; Jack Stephens, Polina Rizoun, Rish Arora and Nivaan Lobo, toured Validitron’s Digital Health Simulation Lab, engaged in global digital health environmental scans, stakeholder profile analysis, and the development of branding guidelines for an international collaboration between the University of Melbourne, University of Manchester, and University of Toronto.
Reflecting on the experience, Jack Stephens noted, “Working with the Validitron team allowed us to see firsthand how digital health innovations can address complex global challenges. The project pushed us to think creatively and strategically, which was incredibly rewarding.”
Polina, Rish and Nivaan added, “As students new to digital health, I learned so much about how effective communication can bridge and engage broader audiences.”
In their final presentation, the students shared insights gained over the six weeks, blending their unique viewpoints with a coordinated approach to digital health communication. Dr. Olivia Metcalf, Validitron Research Platform Manager and Senior Research Fellow in Digital Health, whom the students interviewed during their research, found the final presentation enriching, commending the group for synthesizing a well-rounded and impactful summary.
The Validitron team expresses their gratitude to these talented students for their contributions, which have left a lasting impression on the team and underscored the value of diverse perspectives in advancing digital health communications.
