FAIR at UMCCR - Should we be doing more?

The responsible sharing of consented genomics data is a key for research in Australia – this seminar briefly takes a look at the technology underlying data sharing at an organisational level and asks the question “should we be doing more?”

DR ANDREW PATTERSON
Human Genomics Data Technology Lead
UMCCR

Andrew takes a look at some of the policies, technology and processes that are being adopted by medical research institutes to best enable responsible genomic data sharing (so called Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable data use) and ask whether UMCCR should be adopting some of these processes.

Dr Andrew Patterson completed a PhD in software engineering at Monash University. He worked as a professional software engineer, primarily in the field of health informatics, where he wrote and designed the first version of the award winning PenCAT primary care analytics tool. He started working in genomics 5 years ago where he architected the GenoVic system for Melbourne Genomics. He joined UMCCR in 2021 where he works on federated human genomic data sharing.
