Embedding Indigenous Knowledges into the medical education curriculum

During the final week of their studies, graduating Doctor of Medicine students completed the MD Foundations in Medical Leadership Program led by the Wurru Wurru Health Unit. After four years, they are the first cohort of students who have fully completed a program of medical education, with Indigenous Knowledges embedded throughout their curriculum.

Knowledge and insights shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and medical specialists during the program can be incorporated by the students into their practice, enabling them to advocate for and help implement positive change.

The training will continue to be included into programs for subsequent cohorts.
