The Melbourne Indigenous Research Accelerator (MIRA) Program
The Melbourne Indigenous Research Accelerator (MIRA) program is a collaborative initiative between the MDHS Indigenous Development Portfolio and the MDHS Research Portfolio.
Our mission is to inspire and support Indigenous researchers by enhancing their skills, promoting research careers, and training the next generation of Indigenous health and research leaders.
Program Components
1. Mentorship Program
- Personalized Mentoring: Participants receive tailored guidance through a one-on-one mentoring experience.
- Matching Process: Mentees are paired with mentors based on their short- to medium-term research and professional goals.
- Supportive Environment: Mentors assist mentees in navigating research and professional challenges.
- Regular Meetings: Mentors and mentees meet quarterly to set goals and discuss progress.
2. Researcher Development Program
- Seminars and Workshops: A series of sessions aimed at enhancing career development, covering topics such as:
- Understanding the research funding landscape and strategies for success
- Planning and documenting research impact
- Effective conference presentations
- Media engagement and communication
- Government engagement
- Tailored Content: Topics will be finalized based on participants’ priorities and needs.
Eligibility
This program is open to Indigenous 2nd and 3rd year PhD candidates, as well as postdoctoral fellows and early-career researchers.
Delivery Format
All sessions will be conducted online via Zoom, featuring one bimonthly seminar/workshop and individual meetings with mentors at mutually convenient times.
