Community screening of Genocide in the Wildflower State

At the request of the Indigenous community, the Indigenous Development team and WEHI convened a special screening of “Genocide in the Wildflower State” on Wednesday 11 February at the Ian Potter Auditorium, Kenneth Myer Building, Parkville.

The afternoon was convened by Prof Misty Jenkins and Prof Marcia Langton, and included a post screening Yarn and refreshments with Dr Jim Morrison OAM, Chairperson of Yokai, alongside executive director Alan Carter and Dr Hannah McGlade. The gathering provided an opportunity for reflection and conversation in a supportive setting.

The event was well attended, with around 150 people joining the screening and the subsequent Yarn. The room reflected a wide cross section of the community, including staff, students, partners and neighbours, and the warm atmosphere spoke to the care taken by our hosts.

We are grateful to everyone who helped bring the event to life: the convenors, our colleagues and volunteers, WEHI as partners, and all those who came along to support the community request.

For those who attended the event, we appreciate you taking the time to learn more about truth, justice and healing. We are also grateful for the generosity of Uncle Jim, and the deep care he showed all participants. If you’d like to support Yokai and their vital work, donations can be made via their website.

If you were not able to attend the screening or you would like to share with your colleagues, friends and family you can stream the film on SBS on demand:
