The Peeneeyt Thanampool (Strong Women) Aunty Joan Vickery and Aunty Angela Clarke MDHS Indigenous Post-doctoral Fellowship supports career pathways for Indigenous academics 2027.
Fellowship Aim
This Fellowship is designed to support the next generation of Indigenous researchers who are committed to advancing translational health research and addressing critical health challenges within Indigenous communities. Fellows will contribute to the faculty’s vibrant and diverse scholarly environment, strengthening both local and international Indigenous research networks. The Fellowship also includes opportunities for international research and collaboration.
Who Should Apply?
This opportunity is open to Indigenous graduates (or near graduates) of a PhD within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS) at the University of Melbourne, who are interested in pursuing an academic career.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must have submitted or plan to submit their PhD thesis during the 2026–27 financial year.
- The Fellowship is for a duration of three years and includes mentorship, research support, and funding for national and international travel and accommodation.
- Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to health research that informs and impacts practice and policy to reduce Indigenous health inequalities.
- Fellows will also contribute to teaching activities based on their research during the Fellowship.

Applicants must clearly outline their proposed research and, if successful, will be placed in the department most aligned with their project. It is strongly recommended that applicants discuss their research plans with the relevant Head of Department and their PhD supervisor (if they have not yet graduated).
