New Horizons in Health Professions Education at ANZAHPE 2025
Staff from the Melbourne School of Health Sciences, Department of Medical Education, and Collaborative Practice Centre proudly represented MDHS and UniMelb at the 2025 ANZAHPE Conference.
ANZAHPE supports the education and training of health professionals through promoting scholarship, research and best practice in health professions education across Australia, New Zealand, and the region. This year’s conference theme, Horizons: Embracing the Future, captured a transformational moment in health professions education where attendees were encouraged to build on strong foundations while embracing the possibilities ahead in the face of global healthcare challenges and rapid technological change. The four-day event provided a valuable opportunity to share ideas, build networks, and shape the future of health professions education.
We are proud to share that the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences staff led more than 60 presentations, posters, and workshops – showcasing innovation and advancement in curriculum design, assessment, equity, diversity and inclusion, faculty development, interprofessional learning, technology enhanced learning, professionalism and more. These sessions reflected our strong faculty-wide commitment to improving health professions education through research and collaboration.
The conference also marked the reappointment of the University’s Dr Charlotte Denniston as ANZAHPE 24th President and the first ANZAHPE president affiliated with the University of Melbourne. Her leadership continues to strengthen the University's influence in the field of health professional education.
In another highlight, six University of Melbourne staff were recognised through the ANZAHPE Fellowship Scheme for their excellence in health professional education. The new Associate Fellows are Dr Louise Allen, Joanne Bolton, Associate Professor Anthea Cochrane, Associate Professor Mark Lavercombe, Keryn Wright, and Shemona Rozario.
