About

Associate Professor Jennifer Boldero was a longstanding and much-loved member of the School's social psychology group who passed away in 2017. Jenny was widely known for her work on close relationships and the self, and for her personal warmth and spirit of fun. She was a dedicated teacher, researcher and mentor to many postgraduate research students. To honour her memory, and recognize her concern for student wellbeing, the School created the MSPS Boldero Student Relief Bursary in 2018.

Benefits

A maximum of $2,500 annually is to be awarded to any one student.

Disclaimer: The benefit amount for this award is approximate. It will be confirmed at the time of awarding and determined by the committee according to the terms of the award.

Eligibility

Currently enrolled students who are completing their PhD in the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences at the University of Melbourne; priority will be given to students who are due to complete within year. Student must be making adequate academic progress. Students will only be eligible to receive the payment once.

Selection

The bursary is to be awarded to students that are experiencing sudden, unforeseen circumstances, which impact on their overall well-being and increase their financial need, and which may reasonably be expected to adversely impact upon their ability for timely PhD completion. For example, visiting a family member who has fallen ill, replacing stolen items, or other pressing one-off payments.

Overall financial need and current scholarships a student is receiving will also be taken into account. Students must make an appointment with their supervisor to discuss their circumstances. On nomination by their Supervisor, an application will be made to the RRTC Chair and the GR Convenor, who will assess applications from eligible students at their discretion and forward recommendations to the Head of School for final approval and to process disbursement of funds.

Application

Notice of the bursary will be advertised annually to PhD supervisors and Graduate Researchers within the School.

Graduate Researchers can nominate themselves or supervisors can nominate a Graduate Researcher by  submitting a nomination here for consideration by the Research & Research Training Committee.

The Graduate Researcher must also submit a Student Financial Need Assessments form by 6 August.
