HeART of Biomedicine: Masterclass registration & Art Competition open
Celebrating the interplay between Art and Biomedicine and the connection between human health and the world around us.
Vietnamese art spans a rich history shaped by its indigenous cultures, Chinese influence, and French colonialism. Modern Vietnamese art emerged strongly during the 20th century and was influenced by political upheavals, conflicts, and the interaction with global artistic movements.
Today, Vietnamese art continues to evolve, blending its rich cultural heritage with global and contemporary artistic trends – from traditional lacquer art, silk painting and lantern making, wood carvings and ceramics to abstraction, expressionism, installation art, and multimedia all of which often address social, cultural, and political themes.

About the HeART of Biomedicine Competition
Art and Biomedicine have always been allies. Art allows us to represent the human body and visualise how it can be affected by illness but it is also a creative path to the unexpected. Artists have found extraordinary ways to engage our minds to help us see and experience the world in ways that are often uplifting and provocative. With its ability to evoke emotion and provoke thought, art can serve as a powerful catalyst in biomedicine, fostering new perspectives and solutions. In this competition we invite you to have fun and make art that shines a light on the intricate connections between human health and the world around us.
The School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Melbourne is an exhilarating place to immerse yourself in Biomedicine. Together we are growing the next generation of biomedical scientists, doctors and health professionals right in the heart of the southern hemisphere’s largest biomedical precinct.
