Department of Physiotherapy

Thank you for choosing a student from the School of Physiotherapy. We believe clinical placements are an integral learning opportunity aimed at building a student’s confidence and familiarity with the clinical environment.  Students are given the opportunity to build on their assessment and treatment skills  and apply them in a meaningful clinical context.

The Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) is a 3 year graduate entry-to-practice program designed to meet the current and future needs of students, patients and the changing nature of the health workforce.  More information about the Doctor of Physiotherapy program can be found here: Doctor of Physiotherapy (MC-DPHYSIO) — The University of Melbourne Handbook (unimelb.edu.au)

Clinical education is essential to the training of physiotherapists and DPT students complete over 1,000 hours of clinical placement in a wide variety of clinical settings across the lifespan during their course. Our students experience comprehensive training in a range of healthcare settings in public and private sectors.

Clinical educators are a vital link between theory and practice and fundamental to the training of the future physiotherapy workforce. They require a range of skills to maximise a student’s learning potential, facilitate critical thinking and the development of sound clinical decision-making skills. Clinical placement providers of UoM Physiotherapy students gain access to ongoing clinical education training as well as benefiting from an affiliation with our expert clinical research teams. If you are considering offering clinical placements for our DPT students please contact us at physio-placements@unimelb.edu.au
