Project Details

Despite being well treated for acute neuroinflammatory relapses, many patients with MS exhibit ongoing brain atrophy and ultimately, progressive disability. We are developing advanced brain imaging technologies based on MRI to detect neurodegeneration at the earliest stages of MS in order to monitor patients and predict progression. This project will involve data collection and analysis of advanced MRI in patients with MS and healthy volunteers.Using these new technologies we will explore the brains white matter connections in exquisite detail, and examine how microscopic damage to the white matter leads to brain atrophy, loss of brain function, and ultimately progressive disability.
