The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research is affiliated with The University of Melbourne and The Royal Melbourne Hospital and offers undergraduate (honours) and graduate research training opportunities through the Faculty's Department of Medical Biology. Research is undertaken in the thematic areas of cancer, chronic inflammatory diseases and infectious diseases in laboratories based in Parkville and Bundoora.

Professor Douglas Hilton holds positions as the Head of Department of the Department of Medical Biology, Director of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research and he is also the Head of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute's Molecular Medicine Division.
