Dr Daniel Capurro, MD, PhD has been appointed the new Deputy Director of the Centre for Digital Transformation of Health at The University of Melbourne. Daniel replaces Professor Karin Verspoor, who departed to lead RMIT University's new School of Computing Technologies.

Daniel is an MD trained in Internal Medicine and holds a PhD in Biomedical and Health Informatics from the University of Washington in Seattle. Much of his research seeks to develop methods to improve the use of electronic medical record data for research including digital phenotyping, clinical data quality and the application of process mining to healthcare processes. Daniel’s academic home is the School of Computing and Information Systems, where he is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Health.

Since joining our Centre in 2019, Daniel has been actively involved in Health Informatics teaching and research, as well as setting up the Digital Health Validitron, a pipeline to validate digital health innovations.

His role as Deputy Director demonstrates the commitment between the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology to create a central hub at The University of Melbourne for digital health and informatics education and translational research. Daniel has been serving on the Centre’s Executive Committee and will continue to bring breadth and depth of expertise to the Centre’s strategic and operational plans.
