PsychTalks Presents: Burnout, Substances and Depression: Helping practitioners with poor mental health

An increased rate of suicides within the heath profession in recent months has highlighted the fact that many health practitioners find it difficult to acknowledge their mental health issues, let alone ask for help. For this group of professionals, stigma, fear of discrimination and retribution are just a handful of the perceived barriers to reaching out.

Systemic factors such as bullying, harassment and work/life pressures are some potential causes that need to be addressed, but what can we do to break down the stigma? What if we could inoculate future generations against this mental illness epidemic?

Join guest speakers, Professor Lisa Phillips, Professor Sidney Bloch, Dr Jill Tomlinson and moderator Professor Nick Haslam, as they discuss some of the most exciting research in mental health today, addressing not only how to treat mental illness, but how to prevent it in the first place.

The Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences are delighted to partner with the Mental Health Foundation of Australia to bring you this special PsychTalks event.

Psychology alumni are invited to catch up with old classmates and friends at afternoon tea beforehand, hosted by the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences in the Atrium, Arts West Building.
