International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) awarded 2017 Nobel Peace Prize
Department of Surgery PhD Candidate and Neurosurgery Registrar Dr Ruth Mitchell will be in Oslo, Norway on December 10th to celebrate the award of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN).
Ruth helped start this Campaign over 10 years ago when she was still a medical student, and is a current member of the board of ICAN Australia. ICAN is now a truly global movement with 468 partner organisations in over 100 countries and was awarded the Nobel Prize "for its work to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons and for its ground-breaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons"
