Sculpture installed at Parkville campus
A commemorative sculpture by artist Heather B Swan has been installed at the Parkville campus outside the Old Quad facing the South Lawn.
The sculpture – which takes the form of a bench and features the inscription 'Here. I give you my last breath' – is intended as a place for people to sit and contemplate and will serve as a permanent memorial to those who have donated their bodies for the purposes of scientific teaching.
The University has the largest body donation program in Australia, run by the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience, and our students benefit greatly from the incredible altruism of our donors.
This project was conceived by Prof Kevin Brophy (School of Culture and Communication) and A/Prof Jenny Hayes (Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience), supported by the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Dr Ryan Jefferies and the Harry Brookes Allen Museum of Anatomy and Physiology, and funded by contributions from the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, Melbourne Medical School and School of Biomedical Sciences.
