Professor Jane Maree Gunn  FAHMS, FRACGP, PhD, DRANZCOG, MBBS

Professor Jane Gunn is Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne. She is a medical practitioner and Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences. She serves on the NHMRC Council and has previously served two terms on the NHMRC Research Council and brings extensive experience chairing grant review panels.  

Jane is a distinguished clinician scientist who has established a leading primary care research group.  She has played key leadership roles in reforming healthcare, beginning with her work in shared maternity care and cervical screening programs, and more recently in transforming mental health care in primary care settings.

Jane has been instrumental in guiding the University through the COVID-19 pandemic in her role as the Chief Public Health Adviser on the University leadership team for the pandemic response. Jane is committed to good governance, fostering collaborative research, mentoring the next generation, and catalysing innovation.  

Jane has more than a decade of governance experience as a director of health service and not-for-profit boards. She is a past Board member of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and a current Board Director of Melbourne Health, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI), The Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI), The Melbourne Academic Centre for Health, The Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network and Dental Health Services Victoria.
