Health Informatics and Data Science

Our essential building blocks

The Health Informatics and Data Science workstream is building capability in generating evidence for practice change, and measuring health outcomes that matter to patients. To achieve health informatics expertise-led transformation of health data for improving future care, we are partnering with the healthcare sector to develop priorities that meet their needs and are unlikely to be achieved if healthcare organisations work alone.

Our focus is on the secondary use of routinely collected clinical data for research and particularly for data-driven clinical practice improvement through:

  • Helping data to be research-ready: we are focusing on data improvement to enable many researchers to undertake data-driven research and clinical practice improvement using routinely collected health data.
  • Making projects research-ready: we are investing in dedicated personnel to generate research ideas, to support research/concept development and to mentor researchers so that their data-driven research ideas mature to fundable research projects and more frequent successful grant applications.
