Mr Penot and Ms Boisbouvier-Wylie toured the research and clinical areas of the building with Professor Hollande and Professor Alexander Heriot, Clinical Director of Cancer Surgery at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre before meeting with VCCC Executive Director Professor Grant McArthur.

The University of Melbourne is partnered with leading institutions in France and the visit was designed to further develop these links, Associate Professor Hollande said.

“We are always looking to strengthen our relationships with our overseas partners, and the visit by Mr Penot and Ms Boisbouvier-Wylie allowed the University to showcase the vital work being done in the VCCC, purpose-built for cancer research.

“We have received funding from the French National Health and Medical Research institute (INSERM) to support our collaborative research program with the Lyon Cancer Research Centre (CRCL), and we are now looking to increase the exchange of Research students between our universities.”

France is the third most popular student exchange destination globally for University of Melbourne students.

The UMCCR focuses on improving the molecular detection and diagnosis of cancer, improving therapeutic decisions for patients through computational oncology, and enabling innovative programs in personalised cancer care.
