Associate Professor Shawana Andrews is a Palawa Trawlwoolway woman and Director of the Melbourne Poche Centre for Indigenous Health at the University of Melbourne.
Shawana is a social worker and a public health researcher with 20 years’ experience working in Aboriginal health across the health and higher education sectors in both clinical and academic roles.
Her work has included program development, program management, teaching, research, community development and clinical practice across the Victorian Aboriginal community. Her current research interests include Indigenous representation, Aboriginal women’s experiences of family violence and cultural revitalisation and she is currently a CI for the Safer Families Centre of Research Excellence, a five-year program funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) to lead research into family violence.
