About

The Catherine Wotton Ovarian Cancer Scholarship was established in 2010

The scholarship will provide registered nurses the opportunity to be specifically trained in the area of gynaecological and ovarian cancers.

Catherine Wotton was born and raised in Bendigo, Victoria. She graduated from St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne in 1972 and completed her midwifery studies at the Mercy Maternity Hospital in 1973. She died on 14 October 2006. The Catherine Wotton Scholarship Fund has been established in recognition of Catherine Wotton’s significant 37 year contribution to nursing and her courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

The aim of this scholarship is to address the current shortage of gynaecological nurses, so that women are supported through their cancer journey, whilst also raising awareness of gynaecological cancers amongst women in the community. The scholarship is to the value of $5000.

Eligibility

Students who are applying for entry or have gained entry into the Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing (GC-CNCRNUR)' or the Master of Advanced Nursing Practice will be accepted.

To award one or more scholarships in any given year based on relevant experience in cancer nursing and financial need, to students who are enrolled in a course or subject pertinent to the field of gynecological cancer nursing.

Selection

A shortlist of applicants will be interviewed for the scholarship.

Application

Applicants are required to apply online via the Application Form which includes the providing a statement detailing your interest and/or experience in the area of gynecological cancer nursing and how the scholarship will assist you in completing your studies.

Outcome

Successful recipients will be notified in writing in due time after the closing date. Scholarships are formally presented at a Department of Nursing ceremony at in late March (exact date TBC). Successful recipients are expected to attend this event.
