Professional Graduate Scholarships and Melbourne Medical School Bursaries

The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences recognises that some students may be experiencing ongoing financial hardship whilst undertaking their studies and the Professional Graduate Scholarships were introduced to help applicants with their circumstances.

The Melbourne Medical School bursary has been introduced to assist students experiencing financial hardship during the final two years of the MD course.

Domestic and international students who are experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to apply for the scholarship (MD and DDS students) and bursary (MD students only).

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • be enrolled in either the Doctor of Medicine (MD) or the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS)
  • be enrolled on a full-time basis
  • have successfully completed 200 credit points before being eligible for the scholarship / bursary

Selection criteria

Eligible applicants must be experiencing ongoing financial hardship or disadvantage. Examples of circumstances considered under this category may include, but are not limited to:

  • Individual or family financial disadvantage
  • Excessive financial obligations
  • Economic hardship

Professional Graduate Scholarships

Applicants will be ranked on the basis of financial need and academic merit. Academic merit will be determined on the basis of a weighted average for all results completed in the eligible program at the time of application.

Melbourne Medical School Bursaries

Applicants will be considered and ranked on the basis of financial hardship and may be required to attend an interview as part of the selection process.

Tenure and value

Professional Graduate Scholarships

Successful applicants for the Professional Graduate Scholarship will be provided with an annual payment of $10,000 in May.

Up to 5 scholarships may be awarded in any given year. The scholarship is for the remainder of the course and subject to the successful completion of all subjects and provision of evidence that the student continues to experience financial hardship.

Melbourne Medical School Bursaries

Successful applicants of the MMS Bursary will be provided with a once off payment of up to $10,000 in May.

The number of bursaries awarded annually will depend on available funds.
