About
Donor: The late Mrs Joan Margaret Dickson bequethed $60,000 as a tribute to the work done by Dr Hector Maclean during the years he was resident in Melbourne.
To award to a research student in the department of Ophthalmology (‘the department’).
Also known as the Hector Maclean 'Summer' Scholarship.
Benefits
$4,952. To be divided amongst successful recipients at a maximum of $1600 per student and paid as a lump sum.

Eligibility
Open to University of Melbourne students enrolled in a science, biomedicine, medicine, or other relevant degree.
Selection
Recipients of the scholarship will be selected based on the application and an interview.

Outcome
Successful applicants will be notified of the outcome by end of October 2023.

More information
The duration of the scholarship is 4-8 weeks, full-time or part-time, dependent on the supervisor’s approval. This period can comprise a placement in either:
Block 1 (13 November to 8 December 2023) or
Block 2 (29 January to 23 February 2024) does not include the Christmas closure period (24 December 2023 to 1 January 2024, inclusive).
Positions can run across both Block 1 and 2 with PI approval, with exact dates to be negotiated between the student and supervisor.
