The Selection Committee will base their decision on information provided in the application using a range of criteria. Applicants are advised to prepare their application and supporting documentation with regard to the following:
- Academic Excellence
Applicants must meet the minimum standards for entry to the PhD and should have completed tertiary studies that are at least equivalent to a four year Australian degree or a professional degree qualification (eg. MBBS or equivalent) with normally a minimum result of first class honours.
- Leadership potential
The committee will assess applicants' leadership potential based on their CV, statements made in the application and in supporting documents, including referee reports.
- Alignment of the project to the goals of the Nossal Institute for Global Health
Applicants should provide a statement explaining how their proposed research project aligns to the vision, mission, and research foci of the Nossal Institute for Global Health.
- Demonstrated support from the proposed supervisor
A letter of support from the proposed supervisor is required. The supervisor's letter should make comment on the applicant's potential for successful completion of the PhD, the relevance of the project to the goals of the Nossal Institute for Global Health, and their leadership potential.
In the case of international applicants:
- Demonstrated support from their current or host institution as evidenced by a letter from the applicant's current institution, indicating support for the applicant's proposed research and the institution's commitment to provide a research position on the applicant's return to their home country.
