In addition to the General Requirements, students in the following courses have further requirements that must be satisfied.
Doctor of Medicine
All students are required to successfully complete an approved First Aid training course. First Aid training can be completed by any approved provider in Australia or overseas.
Australian First Aid Training
Students must have completed, within the last three years, a HLTAID003 Provide First Aid course (or equivalent) by a registered training organisation. Organisations can be checked to see if they provide National Recognised Training at training.gov.au.
- Search for the Organisation name or RTO number (de-select "Include RTOs not currently registered"
- Check for the course code (eg HLTAID003) under the Scope tab, Units of Competency.
Overseas First Aid Training
The following overseas training courses have been assessed and deemed equivalent to HLTAID003 Provide First Aid in Australia. Students who wish to submit completion certificates from a different course should do so early to allow time for the course to be assessed by the Melbourne Medical School.
Students should complete both Standard First Aid and Level C CPR/AED. Approved providers are St John Ambulance, Red Cross or Lifesaving Society.
Student should complete the St John First Aid Certificate Course (30 hours covering first aid and CPR in adults and infants).
Student should complete either Comprehensive First Aid (Red Cross) or First Aid Level 2 (St John).
Students should complete both Standard First Aid and Basic Cardiac Life Support Course (both provided by Singapore Red Cross).
Master of Genetic Counselling
All students enrolled in the subjects GENP90004 Health Communication Skills 1, GENE90005 Genetic Counselling in the Community and PAED90020 Clinical Practice are required to have registration as a student at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) and have University of Melbourne insurance. Please contact the Melbourne Medical School for further information.
GENP90017 Immunisation and Travel Health
All students enrolled in the subject GENP90017 Immunisation and Travel Health are required to successfully complete CPR Training HTLAID001 or equivalent. Students should scan and email their certificate of completion to the Course Coordinator prior to the first day of teaching.
