Mosquito-borne Plasmodium parasites are responsible for millions of human deaths yearly. Hear about our efforts to eliminate malaria and how basic science studies have played a crucial role in preventing deaths and disease from malaria. The need to deepen our basic understanding of the parasite remains a key component to overcoming roadblocks to eliminating malaria.

Dr. Sibley is a Professor of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington and a Visiting Professor of Tropical Medicine at the University of Oxford, UK where she is the Scientific Director of the WorldWide Antimalarial Resistance Network. In her malaria research she has collaborated closely with colleagues in the KEMRI/Wellcome Trust Research Laboratories in Nairobi and Kilifi, Kenya and with colleagues in Muheza and Morogoro, Tanzania. She has served on the Expert Scientific Advisory Board of the Medicines for Malaria Venture, and on the Boards of the ACT Consortium, the Malaria Capacity Development Consortium, the MalawiLiverpool Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme and several of the NIH funded International Centers of Excellence in Malaria Research. She holds a Bachelor and Masters of Science in Biology from the University of Rochester in New York, a PhD in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the University of California, San Francisco and completed postdoctoral training at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California.
